PRE-HOSPITAL TRAUMA LIFE SUPPORT (PHTLS)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Course is a continuing education program designed to give a focused review of the care and transport of multi-system trauma patients. The Program presents advances in skills and techniques with new combinations and applications of knowledge and skills. PHTLS emphasizes patient assessment and judgment skills.
PHTLS offers a shared experience that helps bridge the gap between pre-hospital emergency health care providers and the hospital staff. PHTLS reinforces the concept that emergency care is a team effort. PHTLS builds relationships that continue long after the course is over.
The PHTLS Course is developed on the Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) model and leans heavily on the ALTS® system. PHTLS is also coordinated with the EMT and paramedic curriculum from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA/DOT), USA. This insures that the PHTLS Course is medically correct, educationally sound, and current.
PHTLS is sponsored and approved by two national organizations in the USA, namely the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma (ACS/COT).
